Design Week - Prix Emile Hermès

During Design Week 09 Milan, French luxury brand Hermès held its Prix Emile Hermès competition for the second time. The stated goal of this competition is to help discover young and new object designers in Europe.

This year, the theme was everyday lightness. In the end, the jury selected no first and second prize winners but three third place winners as well as 14 other notable entries (Click here to see all selected projects).

Among them, these two are my favorites. I have no idea how use-able they are from look at them. But they certainly appeal to my visual taste (and I would buy them).

Jonathan Hoefler’s Typographic Poster for Obama ‘08

Take a look at this new addition to the Artists for Obama gallery by renowned typeface design Jonathan Hoefler.

It’s not surprising the campaign would ask Jonathan Hoefler to contribute a poster. Obama’s campaign official logo and other texts use fonts that were actually designed by Hoefler & Frere-Jones. Obama’s logo is in the Requiem font. Everything else including tagline signs are in Gotham.

Artists for Obama is a fundraiser effort by the candidate’s campaign. “Possible” is for sale at $60 with a limited quantity of 4800.

Hoefler & Frere-Jones has some of my favorite sans serif fonts, Gotham and Topaz. And I’m beginning to like Requiem, a serif, too.
